The development implemented as part of the continuation of the Green Bus Programme has been successfully completed: the final seven Ikarus 120e fully electric buses have entered service in Komló. With this milestone, the nationwide programme launched in 2025 has been concluded, under which a total of 20 Ikarus 120e electric buses were put into operation within the MÁV Group fleet.

The procurement of the vehicles was realised with the support of the Ministry of Energy and HUMDA Hungarian Mobility Development Agency Plc. Following their deployment in Keszthely, Komárom, Hajdúszoboszló, Balatonfüred and Tata, the buses are now also contributing to the modernisation and greening of local public transport in Komló.

As a result of the development, Komló’s local bus fleet has undergone a significant renewal. By replacing outdated diesel-powered vehicles, the city’s public transport system will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 339 tonnes annually. The Ikarus 120e electric buses provide a quieter, cleaner and more sustainable transport solution for passengers.

With the completion of the nationwide programme, all 20 Ikarus 120e electric buses are now in service, delivering tangible progress toward greener urban mobility in Hungarian cities and supporting long-term emission reduction and the creation of more liveable urban environments.

With the final seven buses of the nationwide fleet of twenty Ikarus 120e electric vehicles entering service in Komló, it becomes clearly evident that electric mobility is no longer intended to exist merely at the level of pilot projects, but as a genuine, operational solution for urban public transport. Ikarus vehicles rank among the most reliable in their category, and I am confident that in the long term they will not only contribute to a cleaner environment, but will also ensure comfortable and dependable service for passengers" — Zoltán Sipos, Electrobus Europe.
