The city of Chemnitz in Saxony has reached an important milestone. At the end of 2025, the public transport operator Chemnitzer Verkehrs‑AG put its first fully electric bus into service for a 30‑month trial —and it is an Ikarus 120e.

With a livery designed specifically for the city, the bus is intended to run on all local routes and to visually signal both the manufacturer’s and the city’s zero‑emission ambitions.  The Ikarus 120e is a 12.9‑metre, fully low‑floor bus that can accommodate 111 passengers (35 seated). Its LFP battery offers a range of up to 580 kilometres per charge, while the liquid‑cooled central PMS motor and electronically controlled braking allow efficient energy recuperation. According to Ikarus, the trial is not only significant for the German city but also underscores the Hungarian manufacturer’s growing presence in Europe.
